It is obtained by grinding the remaining product (residue) after removing the oil from sunflower seeds by solvent extraction method. Sunflower meal, with its pleasant taste and smell, is a feed raw material consumed by livestock. Sunflower meal is one of the meals with the highest production and consumption rate in our country.
The nutritional value of sunflower meal varies according to its protein content. There are two types of sunflower meal in the market. One of them is the low protein (26-28%) meal with 1-2% fat, low crude protein, but high crude cellulose content due to excess hull. The other type of meal is the high protein sunflower meal. In this type of meal, the oil rate does not exceed 1.5%. In addition, the protein ratio is higher (34-37%). Sunflower meal is complementary to soybean meal in its nutritional profile and forms an effective combination in dairy and beef cattle rations. It is reported to have a positive effect on egg production in laying hens. It is also used to meet protein needs in fish feed rations.
